  16. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY THE FOLLOWING SCREENS about configuration.
  17. When configuring options for the program, use F1 to obtain help
  18. and tips about set-up options.

  20. Daily Calendar starts in black and white to be sure you can read the
  21. configuration selections.  To change colors select OTHER - SET COLORS
  22. from the main menu screen.

  25. Daily Calendar requires DOS 3.3 or higher and about 400K of free memory.
  26. You must have a line in your CONFIG.SYS file that set files to
  27. an odd number of 41 or more.  The line should say FILES=41 (or more).
  28. You must also have a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file that says
  29. SET CLIPPER=\\F41 (or more, to match the FILES= number in CONFIG.SYS).
  30. You should not include the Daily Calendar directory in your path.
  31. The program will now check the DOS version and files number
  32. and proceed with configuration.

  35. This program needs DOS 3.3 or higher for all
  36. its functions to work properly.  You have a
  37. version lower than 3.3 and you must upgrade
  38. to at least MS DOS 3.3.  DR-DOS and 4DOS work

  100. If you have a laser printer than emulates the HP LaserJet II/III/IV,
  101. choose the HP LaserJet *II/III/IV selection for advanced control
  102. of your printer.  If you have a printer than defaults or can be set
  103. to an Epson FX/MX/LQ mode, choose the Epson E/F/J/RX/LQ selection.
  104. For other printers, choose the closest selection.

  107. You will have advanced control of your HP LaserJet
  108. available whenever you print by pressing Alt L.  This will
  109. bring up a menu to allow you to reset lines per inch,
  110. characters per inch, portrait or landcape, manual feed and
  111. tray selection.  The default printing modes will stay in effect
  112. unless you press Alt L to change printing modes.

  115. The appointment calendar can be set for an hourly 24-hour calendar
  116. or an half-hourly 12-hour calendar for any 12 hour period in the day.
  117. This is a one-time choice during initial installation and cannot be
  118. changed later except by resetting the start time in the database
  119. utilities menu.

  121. :CALSTART
  122. This choice allows you to reset the calendar start time but does NOT delete
  123. any databases.  You can use this option to change from 12 to 24 hour
  124. calendars or to change the start time of 12 hour calendars.  All existing
  125. calendar data will be preserved, but in the same relative time slot, NOT
  126. the correct time.  As an example, if you had a start time of 7:00 AM and
  127. changed to 6:00 AM, data originally in the 8:00 AM slot (third relative
  128. position) would still be in the third relative position, but this will now
  129. be 7:00 AM.  This choice intended to allow new users to change their start
  130. time before they have entered much data.

  132. :PORTCHECK
  133. These tests check to see if the program recognizes your printer and
  134. modem as they are connected to their respective ports.  Please see the
  135. documentation for a more detailed discussion of ports.  Before testing,
  136. be sure the device is connected and turned on.  Test results are
  137. meaningless if nothing is attached to the port or the device is not
  138. turned on.  Parallel ports (LPT1-3) are fairly straightforward, but
  139. serial ports (COM1-4) are not.  If you cannot make your printer or
  140. modem work, call for support and we will help.

  142. :NON-US PHONE
  143. You have selected non-US phone use.  This choice has the following
  144. consequences:
  145. ■ All phone numbers must be entered as they need to be dialed, with or
  146.   without area codes or country codes.
  147. ■ Your long distance prefix will be changed to a blank.
  148. ■ If you have already entered numbers in US format, they will still be in
  149.   that format, but now all area codes entered will be dialed.
  150.   While you can change from US to non-US formats, this option is intended
  151.   as a one-time choice at installation to avoid confusion in dialing.

  154. There is not enough free memory to copy all the databases to the BAK
  155. subdirectory.  You will need to copy them from DOS.  To see why you do not
  156. have enough free memory, check to see how much memory is used by resident
  157. programs, disk caches, device drivers and menu or shell programs.

  159. :BACKUP DATA
  160. The backup databases created are: DAYBAK.DBF/DAYBAK.DBT,
  161. REDBAK.DBF/REDBAK.DBT and TODOBAK.DBF/TODOBAK.DBT. If you ever have a
  162. database corruption error in any of these databases, go to DOS, delete
  163. the corrupted files (DAY.DBF/DAY.DBT, or REDBOOK.DBF/REDBOOK.DBT or
  164. TODO.DBF/TODO.DBT) and run Daily Calendar.  You will be asked if you want
  165. to restore from the backup.  This will restore your data as it existed on
  166. the date of your last backup.  In addition, ALL your databases have been
  167. backed up to the subdirectory BAK in your Daily Calendar directory.
